Rehabilitation Medicine

Rehabilitation Medicine is also known as Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. This branch of medicine aims to restore and enhance functional abilities and quality of life of those with physical impairments or disabilities. This specialty emphasizes on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of clinical conditions that lead to limitations in function. The conventional medical approach aims "adding years to life" and this specialty with its functional model accomplishes "adding life to years". Increasing awareness about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle has made many people take up sports and include exercise in their daily lives. But many a times due to lack of proper guidance, these very activities which are supposed to make one healthy and fit, lead to injuries. This, in turn, can hinder physical movement and discourage one from pursuing it, thus putting a stop to a beneficial and enjoyable activity.
